Patent Injunction May Stop Sales of Galaxy Nexus

Apple today won an injunction against Samsung that may see a ban on sales of the popular Galaxy Nexus phones.
The complaint is very similar to the one Apple lodged against HTC and subsequently won. This one is particularly painful for Android users however as the Nexus represents Google’s premier development device, and the only one (officially) running  Jelly Bean.
Samsung is ready to appeal so this isn’t over quite yet, but it doesn’t look good for Samsung at the moment.

Hotmail Rebranded to "Newmail"

Hotmail has seen many changes this past year, but the latest is that it is getting rebranded and is to be called Newmail. It’s not exactly a super name, but I guess they want to keep it simple.

Screenshots of Newmail leaked yesterday, and it looks like it is an entire overhaul from the old system. Let’s face it, it needed a huge overhaul. Not surprisingly, it kind of resembles Gmail’s layout. It should be faster as well as having a cleaner look. It will also integrate with Twitter and Facebook, so they apparently want to become a one stop shop when it comes to social media.
No matter how it works, it has to be better than how it was before. It certainly looks better now.

Earthquake-Ready Table Could Save You from earthquake in future.

No place in the world is safe from earthquakes. They’re one of the most terrifying natural calamities because you can’t help but feel so small and insignificant when the ground begins to shake – and just doesn’t seem to stop.

What you need to do during earthquakes is simple: drop, take cover, and hold on. There’s a risk in the second step because you might find yourself crushed to death if the thing that you’re crouching under isn’t very strong or sturdy. That’s where this table designed by Arthur Brutter and Ido Bruno from Jerusalem’s Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design comes in.

The earthquake-ready desk will be featured in the 2012 Design Bonanza Bezalel exhibition in Milan from April 17 to April 22, and has been nominated for London Design Museum’s design of the year award. It’s more than just a concept design, though. The table is currently licensed by school furniture manufacturer A.D. Meraz Industries Ltd. for distribution in Israel.

The table has been engineered to withstand the impact of objects that weigh up to 1,000 kgs (or 1 ton) from a drop of eight to ten feet. Under ordinary tables, you would probably be crushed along with everything else on top of you. It’s about 2.5 times as expensive as current school desks, but there’s no amount of money in the world that can out-value a human life, don’t you think?

Ice Cream Sandwich Update Confirmed on ubislate 7+ (aakash 2)

We’ve been in talking about the Indian cheapest Aakash 2 tablet recently that sells for the equivalent of $35 for students and teachers. While the tablet is due to go on sale in the country in the coming few weeks, the tablet-maker Datawind has announced that they will release an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the tablet around six to eight weeks after the tablet goes on sale, which should be before the end of April, though, according to report.
Powered by a single core 800 MHz processor, the Aakash 2 tablet  packs a 7 –inch capative touchscreen, and it is coupled by 256 MB of memory with 2 GB of storage space.
The Aakash 2 (Ubislate 7+) is a low-cost Android tablet designed to provide students with access to the internet and to educational apps.
Datawind can compile and distribute the update based on Android’s open-source code, but if they manage to actually install it on the low-end tablet, it’s hard to imagine that it would run well as the tablet doesn’t meet the recommended specifications for ICS. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one, though.

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal
Siba

Indian Government plans to hold spectrum auctions for the Fourth Generation (4G) mobile services by the end of this year, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said at the India Day function organised by his Ministry at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. He also said that the government will have enough radio waves for all operators after it is released from the defence services and by cancellation of 122 2G licences by the Supreme Court in the 2G spectrum allocation case. The government does not want to finish the auction all the spectrum at one go but the final decision will depend on Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The government will also auction 2G spectrum which will be vacated by the cancellation of licences following Supreme Court order. 3G auctions happened in India in April 2010 and the winners were announced in May 2010. There is no exact time frame when the 4G auctions would take place, but more details such as pricing, participants would be available within the next few months. He said he will announce National Telecom Policy 2011 in April which will present the roadmap for the telecom sector over next 10-15 years.
